The species has close affinities to D. incertus Wang, 2003 (= D. parabrunneus Wang, 2003, new synonymy) and D. pseudobrunneus Wang, 2003 forming the newly proposed incertus-group of Draconarius. As for species inhabiting caves, the majority are troglophilic and trogloxenic, but few ones being troglobitic (Liu & Li 2009). Five cave-dwelling eyeless members have been described up to date, all known only from females.
