However, the accretion rates and outflow geometries that result from this mass-transfer mechanism cannot adequately explain the observations of the nearest and best studied symbiotic binary, Mira, or the formation of some post-AGB binaries, e.g. barium stars. We propose a new mass-transfer mode for Mira-type binaries, which we call \u2018wind Roche-lobe overflow\u2019 (WRLOF), and which we demonstrate with 3D hydrodynamic simulations. Importantly, we show that the circumstellar outflows which result from WRLOF tend to be highly aspherical and strongly focused towards the binary orbital plane. Furthermore, the subsequent mass-transfer rates are at least an order of magnitude greater than the analogous BHL values.               <jats:p> The bright sdO star HD127493 is known to be of mixed H\/He composition and excellent archival spectra covering both optical and ultraviolet ranges are available. UV spectra play a key role as they give access to many chemical species that do not show spectral lines in the optical, such as iron and nickel. This encouraged the quantitative spectral analysis of this prototypical mixed H\/He composition sdO star. We determined atmospheric parameters for HD127493 in addition to the abundance of C, N, O, Si, S, Fe, and Ni in the atmosphere using non-LTE model atmospheres calculated with TLUSTY\/SYNSPEC. A comparison between the parallax distance measured by Hipparcos and the derived spectroscopic distance indicate that the derived atmospheric parameters are realistic. For relatively low He-accretion rates carbon ignition occurs in the center, leading to a type Ia supernova (SN Ia) explosion, whereas for relatively high accretion rates carbon is ignited off-center, probably leading to collapse. Thus the parameter space producing SNe Ia is reduced compared to what was assumed in earlier papers, in which the possibility of off-center ignition was ignored.               <jats:p>Recent studies suggested that at least some of the observed SNe Ia originate from the double-degenerate model, which involves the merging of double carbon-oxygen white dwarfs (CO WDs). However, the delay time distributions predicted by previous theoretical studies are inconsistent with the observed SNe Ia at the early epoches of &lt; 1 Gyr and old epoches of &gt; 8 Gyr. Previous studies suggested that the CO WD+He subgiant channel has a significant contribution to the formation of massive double CO WDs, the merging ofwhich may produce SNe Ia. In the presentwork, we added this channel into the double-degenerate model to investigate its influence on the delay time distributions of SNe Ia.
