Furthermore, most of its phenomenology remains unclear, thus giving hints for speculative investigations. In this Letter, we explore the possibility to use a well-known photosensitive protein, the Reaction Center of Rhodobacter sphaeroides, to build up an electrical pH sensor, i.e., a device able to change its resistance depending on the pH of the solution in which it crystalizes. By using a microscopic model previously tested on analog proteins, we investigate the electrical response of the reaction center single protein under different conditions of applied bias, showing the feasibility of the bio-rheostat hypothesis. As a matter of fact, the calculated resistance of this protein grows about 100% when going from a pH\u2009=\u200910 to a pH\u2009=\u20096.5. Moreover, calculations of the current voltage characteristics well agree with available experiments performed with current atomic force microscopy under neutral conditions. \u00e0 deux fer<\/jats:title>\n                <jats:p xml:lang=\"fr\">Le sujet de la th\u00e8se concerne l\u2019\u00e9tude de l\u2019inversion de valence dans des complexes FeIIFeIII induite par la d\u00e9protonation d\u2019un ligand de FeII. L\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de cette \u00e9tude vient de ce que le processus consid\u00e9r\u00e9 peut \u00eatre d\u00e9crit comme un transfert d\u2019\u00e9lectron induit par un transfert de proton. Les transferts de protons et d\u2019\u00e9lectrons sont au c\u0153ur de nombreuses r\u00e9actions catalytiques ou biologiques et la compr\u00e9hension des m\u00e9canismes de leur mise \u0153uvre, s\u00e9quentielle ou coupl\u00e9e, est un enjeu tr\u00e8s actuel. La premi\u00e8re partie de la th\u00e8se est consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 la caract\u00e9risation du premier syst\u00e8me pr\u00e9sentant cette propri\u00e9t\u00e9 originale. Il est fond\u00e9 sur un complexe binucl\u00e9aire FeIIFeIII dont les deux ions Fe sont pont\u00e9s par un dicarboxylate et un ph\u00e9nolate. Le FeIII est li\u00e9 par un groupe bis-2-picolylamine et le FeII par un groupe similaire dans lequel une pyridine a \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9e par une aniline. C\u2019est la d\u00e9protonation de ce groupe aniline li\u00e9 au FeII qui provoque l\u2019inversion de valence, l\u2019anilinate form\u00e9 \u00e9tant li\u00e9 au FeIII. Le complexe aniline est isol\u00e9 avec le groupe aniline en position -trans par rapport au ph\u00e9nolate pontant mais il poss\u00e8de la particularit\u00e9 de ne pas \u00eatre stable en solution et de s\u2019isom\u00e9riser, le groupe aniline passant en position -cis par \u00e9change avec une pyridine. Le m\u00eame ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est observ\u00e9 pour le complexe anilinate form\u00e9 par d\u00e9protonation. Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9 en combinant les spectroscopies UV-visible, RMN du proton et M\u00f6ssbauer et les caract\u00e9ristiques thermodynamiques et cin\u00e9tiques de l\u2019isom\u00e9risation ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9termin\u00e9es. La relation entre le transfert d\u2019\u00e9lectron et le transfert de proton a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9e par des techniques \u00e9lectrochimiques. Des \u00e9tudes approfondies par cyclovoltam\u00e9trie et marquage isotopique ont montr\u00e9 que dans ce syst\u00e8me les transferts d\u2019\u00e9lectron et de proton sont concert\u00e9s. La deuxi\u00e8me partie de la th\u00e8se est consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude des facteurs qui sont susceptibles d\u2019influencer le transfert d\u2019\u00e9lectron, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire les potentiels r\u00e9dox des deux sites \u00e0 Fe, et le transfert de proton, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire le pKa du ligand protique. Pour ce faire, de nouveaux complexes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9par\u00e9s en modifiant soit le ligand protique, l\u2019aniline \u00e9tant remplac\u00e9e par un benzimidazole, soit le groupe complexant le Fe, remplacement de la bis-2-picolylamine par la bis-(2-m\u00e9thyl-N-m\u00e9thylbenzimidazole)amine. Des complexes pr\u00e9sentant ces modifications mais d\u00e9pourvus du ligand acide ont \u00e9t\u00e9 synth\u00e9tis\u00e9s pour \u00e9tudier les effets de ces modifications sur les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s r\u00e9dox des ions Fe. L\u2019\u00e9tude de l\u2019influence des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s r\u00e9dox a \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9e dans un premier temps. La substitution du groupe complexant le FeIII n\u2019a pas de cons\u00e9quence importante au plan structural pour le complexe proton\u00e9 qui existe toujours sous la forme de deux isom\u00e8res. Par contre, apr\u00e8s d\u00e9protonation un seul isom\u00e8re existe. Les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s spectroscopiques sont peu alt\u00e9r\u00e9es ce qui montre que la structure \u00e9lectronique du syst\u00e8me n\u2019est pas boulevers\u00e9e. L\u2019\u00e9tude de l\u2019influence des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s acides a \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9e ensuite. Deux complexes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9s qui diff\u00e8rent par la nature du groupe complexant le FeIII. La substitution de l\u2019aniline par le benzimidazole ne change pas de fa\u00e7on notable les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s structurales du syst\u00e8me mais on note cependant que les valences des deux ions sont moins localis\u00e9es. La d\u00e9protonation du benzimidazole est observ\u00e9e et conduit \u00e0 un chromophore sensiblement diff\u00e9rent du pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent illustrant les diff\u00e9rences de ligand. L\u2019\u00e9tude \u00e9lectrochimique pr\u00e9liminaire r\u00e9v\u00e8le un comportement similaire au premier complexe
